When a long wheel base van is the right choice
If your consignment is under about 1,400 kg and fits within three pallet footprints, an LWB van will almost always beat a 7.5 tonne lorry on both cost and access. It can reach loading bays, industrial units and retail back doors that larger vehicles cannot, and it does not need a tail lift where hand-ball or a pump truck is available at both ends.
Dedicated rather than shared loading
Van work arranged through Johnson's Haulage is dedicated by default: your goods stay on the same vehicle from collection to delivery, with no depot handling in between. That matters for fragile items, high-value stock and anything with a fixed delivery slot, because there is no trunking leg where a pallet can be delayed or damaged.

We price on collection and delivery postcodes, weight, dimensions and the delivery window you need. Once booked, our planners appoint a carrier from our approved network, confirm the collection time and keep you updated to delivery, with a proof of delivery issued afterwards. Regular van work can be set up on a trade account with agreed rates.

How many pallets fit in a long wheel base van?
Typically three standard UK pallets, subject to a payload of around 1,400 kg. If your pallets are taller than 1.7 m or heavier, we would recommend a Luton or 7.5 tonne vehicle instead.
Can you collect a van load today?
In most cases yes. Call our Stockport office and we will check live availability across our approved carrier network; same day collections within the North West are usually achievable within a couple of hours of booking.
Is the van dedicated to my consignment?
Yes. Van work we arrange is dedicated unless you specifically ask us to consolidate, so your goods travel direct with no intermediate depot handling.
Do you cover deliveries outside the North West?
Yes — LWB van work is arranged UK-wide, including long-distance runs to Scotland, the South West and London, and we can also arrange European van movements.
