Flatbed trailers carry loads that will not fit inside a curtain or box body — steel, timber packs, machinery, tanks and modular units — and allow loading from above or either side by crane or forklift. Johnson's Haulage arranges rigid and articulated flatbed work across the UK.

Loads that have to be loaded from above
Where an item is craned into position, or where forks cannot reach into a body, a flatbed is the practical answer. Fabricated steelwork, packaged timber, tanks and large machinery are all routinely moved this way.
Load securing and weather protection
Open loads must be secured and, where necessary, sheeted. We confirm strap, chain and sheeting requirements before collection, and specify a step-frame or low-loader instead where a load exceeds standard flatbed height.
Abnormal and out-of-gauge loads
If a load exceeds standard width, length or height limits, movement notifications and possibly escorts are required. Tell us the exact dimensions and weight at enquiry stage and we will advise what is needed and arrange the appropriate equipment through our carrier network.

What can a flatbed trailer carry?
Steel, timber, machinery, tanks, modular buildings and any load that must be craned or side-loaded. Payloads run to around 27 tonnes on an articulated flatbed.
Do you sheet flatbed loads?
Where weather protection is needed, yes. We confirm sheeting and securing arrangements before the vehicle is dispatched.
Can you move an oversized load?
Yes. Out-of-gauge movements are arranged with the correct notifications, routing and, where required, escorts.
Who is responsible for loading the vehicle?
Normally the site providing the crane or forklift loads the vehicle, with the driver responsible for securing the load. We confirm responsibilities at booking so there is no confusion on the day.
