Hiab and crane offload deliveries: when you need a lorry-mounted crane

28 November 2024 5 min read

What a Hiab delivery actually solves

A Hiab is a lorry-mounted crane that can lift and place goods directly from the vehicle to the ground, or vice versa, without needing a forklift, crane hire or additional labour on site. It's particularly useful for building materials, steel, plant equipment, and other heavy or awkward loads destined for sites without their own unloading equipment.

Common uses

Hiab-equipped vehicles are widely used across construction and industrial sectors where standard kerbside delivery isn't practical.

  • Construction sites without forklift or crane access
  • Steel and structural beam deliveries
  • Plant and machinery relocation
  • Deliveries to remote or restricted-access locations

Sourcing the right vehicle for the job

Not every job needs a Hiab, and not every Hiab has the same lifting capacity or reach — so the right vehicle depends on load weight, dimensions and the site's access constraints. Our team assesses these details before booking, sourcing a suitably specified crane vehicle from our carrier network rather than defaulting to a standard flatbed and creating problems on arrival.
